i would love to find a quote that sums up my love for the south with my constant craving for new york city and oh, can we throw in my time at auburn university and maybe my friends and family too? yea. didn't think there was a quote for that.
I'm sitting in my living room watching the end of The Wedding Planner.
Our windows are open. I can hear police sirens, a trumpet player and someone singing opera outside. I love the sound track of this city. (Most of the time.)
Did you hear about the Domino Tag Sale? I sure did. I had mothers, sisters and friends insisting that I should go. Like I needed convincing?! I wouldn't miss this for anything! Like so many others, I really miss this magazine! The sale was from 10am-5pm. And roommate, LindsayAnn, and I had our day planned around it. We had no idea what to expect.
We got there around 11am. Maybe not the smartest decision. We walked up the avenue towards the sale. I was giddy at this point. Couldn't believe we are really doing this. As we approached the address, we saw a crowd of people. But this was to be expected. It is Domino! We finally made it all the way to the town home and what do we see....
A line of people stretched alllllllll the way down the block. We had to walk down the entire block full of Domino reading people to find the end of the line. The best part about the line was not only how quickly it went, but also the hopeful chatter of what we might find. The worst part was watching people walk out with the Bronze Sunburst Mirror or the Matching Enamel Lamps that I know we all remember. Our new line friend, Kate, saw the woman with the Sunburst Mirror. We about died.
This was the outside of the townhouse. Glorious.
By the time we got into the downstairs garden apartment, there wasn't much left.
Mostly fabrics.
Random assortment of things from the magazine. A little pricey, though!
Follow the bun! LindsayAnn led the way through the masses.
Even though we walked away empty handed, the people watching alone made the trip worthwhile! It was the closure I needed for my beloved Domino magazine.
As per sisters suggestion to get my hair did after my curly stint, I went and got a trim last night. Afterwards I needed a little snack.... What did I treat myself to? Just two hot dogs from Gray's Papaya. The guy in front of me only had one. Weak sauce. I ate one at the standing bar and proceeded to scarf the other one down as I walked and talked up Amsterdam. Mmm.
Little Sister, Gracie, graduates from the University of Oklahoma a week from today! What what! I can't believe it. How did this day get here so quickly? Wasn't it just an hour ago that I was listening to the dramas of rush and descriptions of dorm room furniture arrangement? And now its done??
Can't wait for next weekend. So excited for sister.
I live in New York City. Love it. Grew up in Dallas, Texas. Miss it. Graduated from Auburn University. 13 reasons to treasure it. So now I work at arguably the world's largest Ad Agency (but let's not argue). By day, I'm disguised as an Art Buyer, but the rest of the time, I'm the Mayor of Street Merch. You know, found furniture left out on the city streets. It's my sworn duty to repair, repaint or repurpose as much of it as I can. After a thrilling experience on HGTV, I knew that home design and lifestyle hosting is exactly what I love doing.
Stay tuned on that, while I sort it all out right here before your eyes. Read on!
